The End of the World

The second decade of the 21st century… The United States of America have disintegrated; Russia is ruled by tycoons, who divided the country; The European Union blocked its borders and prevented the entry of millions of migrants. Serbia remained an isolated country without a central government. Thousands of refugees wander aimlessly through it, trying to survive and illegally enter some of the cities. City-states, including Novi Sad, are surrounded by walls and barbed wire to prevent anyone from entering the city. The city, ruled by a right-wing government, is roamed by fanatical religious groups who announce the end of the world, blaming everything on people who are different.

History student Ognjen Tishma grew up in such a world.

After the recent eruption of the volcano, it has been raining for days, threatening to flood the city… In addition to all that, the city is preparing for elections…

Will the end of the world come and raze Novi Sad to the ground? How will Ognjen and his family face the coming threats?

The Stories from Yugoslavia

Benoit is an eighteen-year-old of Serbian origin, born in France. After a conflict with the law, his father decides to send him to his grandfather who lives in Serbia. However, Benoit does not find his grandfather alive and is forced to find his way alone in a remote town in Vojvodina, getting to know local characters and socializing with them.

In his grandfather’s legacy, Benoit finds the grandfather’s diary, which covers the history of their family from the early 19th century until the present time. At the same time, it shows the history of Yugoslavia. From migration from the Adriatic islands, through the failed revolution in Bosnia, terror in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, tragedies and battles in the Second World War, immigration to Vojvodina, to socialist Yugoslavia and its tragic disintegration, we follow the birth, life and death of a country through the lives of those who inadvertently created that country and died with it.

New Pannonia

An island in the northern seas was supposed to be a temporary home for the descendants of the Emperor John Nenad and their supporters, who left South Pannonia deliberate to reach Russia. The destiny was however different, and the temporary shelter has become their permanent residence, called New Pannonia.

During the difficult times, under the constant threat of attack from the neighbouring Nenyets and various robbers, the small, poor community has been governed by the despot who ordered a harsh rule that women become men, while men become women during an autumn ceremony. The old men are driven to the Village of the Damned where they need to wait for their death, the church is submissive to the despot who is protected by the powerful guard of the women warriors. The opposition to tyranny is punished without mercy.

Two friends, Leo and Peter, scared of the ceremony and the poor life in front of them, decide that, despite prohibition, threats and hazards, escape from the island and look for happiness in some other place. The choice between the complete obedience and freedom is hard but only worthy of the proud men, descendants of the famous, righteous knights. Freedom, however, requires sacrifice…

The Predestined

In the routine, trivial world of our everyday lives, Milosh is a completely ordinary boy who carelessly grows into a young man. He is 16, lives in a broken family just like many of his peers. His mother is overworked, always late. Father disappeared during the war in Kosovo. Milosh goes to high school, like most students he is not too conscientious and interested in learning and fulfilling his obligations. He is admired and, perhaps, in love with an attractive professor. When he is not thinking about school, he is a cheerful boy with many friends, a fan of computer games. In other words, quite an average teenager, not exceptional in any way.

However, in just one day, Milosh becomes aware of strange looks directed at him under, and a little later he meets a bum who warns him that the whole world is against him. Confused, he returns home where an uninvited guest visits him and brings him unusual gifts. Then a friend arrives with a new, hit game. But instead of fun, shots are heard…

P.S.

The summer is almost here, and  two boys yearn to first bathe in the lake on which shore there is an ominous warning. Despite the dark history of the icy water, they jump … One to prove his fearlessness, other to feel that he belongs to someone. It seems that, with a bit of fear and laugh, everything will turn out to be alright. But the times are bleak, there is a war, and a group of soldiers heads towards the lake, together with a truck with a heavy load, which should be soaked into the dark depths. This covered operation no one uninvited should see. Random witnesses must be eliminated …

Years later, the participants of the action live without too much concern. However, the demons of the past emerge from the still waters of the lake…

The Scream

The faces we meet. The situations in which we participate. The time we live in. How to survive in the nightmarish vortex of a society that is falling apart, in which humanity is a pearl in the mud?

Zoran is in a trap. It is surrounding him from all directions. He can’t go forward. He can’t go back. His child is sick with a rare disease and the cure is hidden behind many doors. His job depends on an impossible contract. His father is still fighting with the daemons of his past. His mother is full of bitterness. Is there a way out?

The Year of Cancer

This is a story that happened and is happening. A story about ideals and their betrayal. A story of a revolution exploited and deceived by the schemers and careerists who now rule. About revolutionaries pushed to the margins of a materially and spiritually poor society. A story of a writer, more hungry than full, unrecognized, hushed up, and his speech that was supposed to lead the masses to the victory of great ideals. About a young man in whom ecstasy and faith are smouldering, but who, like the evil plague of the past, is being eaten away by illness. Finally, this is a story drawn with delicate, fragile lines about broken families, the change of generations, about youth without hope and its sinking into vanity, about bitter truths and a cry of rebellion in the midst of hopelessness and apathy.

The Way

There are just a few books that can change a person’s life, but there are comics which can change a person’s dreams. The Way is one of them.

There is a dream-like quality to the very structure of it, resulting from the rhythm of narrative and the elegance of drawing.

The comic focuses on Man’s intuitive search for the meaning of life, an ‘archetypal’ key for finding one’s inner peace.

Through symbols and echoes and displaced relationships, dreams make things seem further away than in real life, but somehow mysteriously closer at the same time. Using the language of poetical fantasy and myth as well as by its impeccable graphism, The Way generates catharsis in its readers for the very fact that it, just like the dream, employs the fantastic and distant to make the universal life problems, often obscure and opaque, seem close and crystal clear.

The decisions the hero is forced to make in the story become the reader’s decisions through a mechanism similar to the one which makes us feel the actions and decisions in our dreams, although we are under the impression that it was not we who made them. The storyline of The Way spins an inseparable thread of life and dream in a reality which transcends both the life and the dream – the reality of aesthetics.
